"Stiff, but hardly arousing" is a good way to describe the music featured on Deus Vult. The album is not engaging, certainly not enthralling, heavily derivative, and bereft of anything resembling dynamics or good ideas. And while Toner may have given his soul over to Jesus, it's very clear that Profanatica and Incantation also own a stake in this man's being, but alas these dark lords did not grant him much power on the musical front. This is definitely the case with ex-Abazagorath vocalist Cullen Toner and his new project Dawnbreaker, whose album Deus Vult is about as creative and as exciting as the name of the album (taken from a meme appropriated by Christian radicals) would suggest. When people become "born-again" they tend to become very soggy, boring, and repressed, almost soulless in a way.
